Individual Training Sessions

The Potential Difference Maker

This week we wanted to discuss the benefit of individual training sessions when you are a young athlete. While individual workouts may not be the priority for every player, some find them to be game changing.

Individual training sessions with a coach offer one on one workouts that allow focused attention, form correction, and higher amounts of reps. This is where we target weaknesses and personalize the player’s conditioning and game play. These sessions are usually about 60-90 minutes long which allows time for things to be broken down and worked on in repetition. After a few sessions players usually feel they have a higher basketball IQ and more confidence.

In practices, we are focusing on overall team systems, spacing on the court, learning new plays, etc….but this is the baseline for getting better at your sport. Practices are the core necessity of any sport, but at Rise we feel a combination of team practices and individual workouts are the perfect balance for the player trying to get to the next level.

Another option I also like to mention for growth is group workout sessions. These smaller settings with 2-4 players can allow for a nice combination of skill development and application while also providing peer modeling and a safe place to fail.

Players can develop immensely over a short period of time if they choose to dedicate themselves past just the required practice schedule. Working with a professional trainer provides that next level of growth that just can’t be obtained through team practices alone. Committing to individual or small group workouts consistently allows players to stand out amongst high level coaches and recruiters. It can be all the difference for a player trying to reach that next level.
